Are you different because you're lonely? Or are you lonely because you're different?

Yoo Ah In's Cine 21 Nov 2010 interview is perhaps my favourite celebrity interview ever. Actually, having spent the past few days reading all his interviews I could get my hands on (time well spent!!) he's pretty much my favourite interviewee. Granted, it takes the right interviewer with a certain degree of skill to conduct an awesome interview in which readers actually gain real insight about the inner workings of said celebrity. At least that's my take =)

Anyway, my favourite question (though there were many that I really liked) is "Are you different because you're lonely? Or are you lonely because you're different?" I had to think about this on the bus (where all my greatest thinking takes place!) for a bit to formulate my own response: I'm lonely because I'm different. I honestly believe that everyone is lonely and that we all put up with it with varying abilities and success given what we have or lack. I just happen to be one of those who got the short end of the stick, so I tend to overcompensate this difference by being super optimistic. I mean, otherwise what else am I suppose to do? Sulk and cry and hope for some secret benefactor? (ha!) It's a tough principle to follow at times, but it's also sort of the only way for me to survive. That was pretty melodramatic, but it's the truth... I seriously can't imagine going by my day-to-day activities without giving things a lighter spin.
